    Quick Key Fix

My first project with this car, so I thought I'd start small. Here's what the key looked like before. With the keyring broken off I was afraid I'd loose the dang thing.

Here's the "after" picture. I found a small ring that fit the radius of the missing bits, roughed the renaming plastic edges with a razor saw and tacked the ring in place with some super glue. Next I made a little mold out of aluminum duct tape and potted the whole thing with JB Weld (actually JB Quick because I'm impatient). Before it was fully cured I pulled the tape off and trimmed the "flashing" with an X-Acto knife. Then I ground it down to a nice shape. It's not pretty but At least I won't lose it before I can find a permanent solution.

That was plan A, but no luck at home depot or pep boys. The local BMW dealership said they still had the car's serial number in their system, and it would only cost $75 for a new one!

My locksmith charges $5 to cut keys i bring in. Or for the price the dealer wanded to charge you could get something like this.

I don't always wreck cars, but when I do I wreck them into trees.
