    Early model windshield molding

I did a search for this but couldn't find an answer

I have an 87 so my car came with the chrome windshield molding. First question is do I have to remove the windhield to remove just this piece. The gaskets are fine, just the trim molding has turned that brown color?

Secondly is there a link to a removal procedure?

Lastly, can I update to the black molding of the later models?

no you dont have to remove the windshield.

I'm not to for sure of a link, i put mine in with my Swiss army knife and some dish soap, Others have used a coat hanger, and they do sell a correct tool too do it also.

And yes, the black is a direct swap. You dont even have to buy new, just go to junk yard and pull the strip and place in your car.

There is a special tool that you have to purchase - It will make it a hell of a lot easier. IMO the chrome looks gross, I replaced mine with the black stripping. The corner pieces are removable, you just have to pry it up with a flat head.

        You need this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Windshield-L...091ddd&vxp=mtr

^this. get the tool. well worth the 13 bucks. and lots of dish soap. also wait for a warm day. the cold makes the trim hard as hell to work with.
just pop off the retaining clip and pull it up and out like opening a pack of smokes. if you get the black you will need new black clips. all available at any of the german parts houses. like 30 or 40 for the front and i thik a couple more for the rear. the clips are 10 apiece if i remember correctly.
