    Whats up with this kidney?

    Whats up with the part the runs across the bottom? Ive never seen a kidney have this. oh and the picture is upside down, so the part im talking about is actually the top.

    Seen it before... never really knew what it was for either. It's on both pairs of kidney grilles I have.

        I've seen them called 'Euro' kidneys, but I think they were for just for cars with no a/c. I don't think they sold no a/c e30s in the US, hence 'euro'.

            First of all, that is the top of the kidney. Secondly, they were sold on cars destined for cooler climates in northern states or countries.

              Ahh so those blockage plates allowed the car to bring less air through the radiator hence allowing the car to get up to temperature faster. That way one got more heat from their heater in less time. Genius engineers in the Fatherland!

              Thats some great trivia. Never saw one before this posting . Or if I had I never consciously noticed the difference when mounted.

                This^ I did not notice that he thought they were for the bottom...I hope he does not think that.

                But I blacked out all mine, so I just thought it was normal for the e30 to have that. But being in NY they are all like that...

                  They make ones thats completely blocked off too.

                    Really? I have never seen that, for the really cold places? I have never seen one without the 1/4 blocker here in NY. Not that they are not around, just we have them with the plate.
