    Was this fingerprint mark an imperfection from the factory (rear lower valence)?

    Bought this car from a one-owner, w/ ALL the original paint/panels on the car.

    I knew it was original paint b/c it had the infamous paint checking evenly distributed throughout the entire car. Had no prior bondo/repair work either from close examination on the rear valence like many E30s do.

    So the question remains, was this a fingerprint screw up from the factory? The undercoating looks factory to me. I recently had the car resprayed, but this was there prior to it. It's not a smear in the paint, but in the undercoating. I'm thinking someone at the BMW factory tested the area w/ their finger before the coating was fully dry....but who knows

    While possible to be an original defect, BMW's QA is good enough to make that more likely to be something that happened after shipment from the factory.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
