Ok so i know that the rear plastic bumpers dont fit the earlier e30s b/c of the wheel arches. This topic has been beaten to death since the begining of "forums" i'm sure. If anyone on this board has info for me, specificly with pictures of where exactly the conflict is... please share. Also if you have pictures of the plastic bumper lined up with the rear of the car, concentrated mainly on the part that does not fit that woudl be great. You dont have to tell me how you made it work b/c i am not asking for that. I have a body shop and all of its tools at my disposal, i will figure and deal with that on my own. But before i go ahead and purchase plastic bumpers or mtech 2 bumpers, I would just like it cleared up of where exactly the conflict is on the body of the car.

i'm pretty sure on 87 and older cars the plastic bumper hangs over into the wheel well. What neeeds to be done is shave that down so it matches the existing line of the wheel well. I think that 88 cars are a direct bolt up. Someone add more useful info for this guy. Hope this helps -
I'll post a couple pictures in a minute. I used to have my bumper swap article on E3S but it has been unavailable since the downfall.
It will VERY SOON be available again. Online here in the tech section. Complete with loads of pictures and as much detail as anyone capable of the job really needs. I'm finishing the revisions now, completely covering the bumper trim fabrication now.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

Also count on shortening the trim, and adding a new end to it.
Doing it yourself, or having the pros do it... count on ~20hrs to pull this off completely, and PROPERLY.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

how bad would it have looked to fill in a plate on the top of the bumper and have it stick out another .5". If it didnt look horrible it would be a lot easier to mount the apron too. If not you would have to modify the whole Mtec2 kit.Im now E30less.

I'll tell ya, it sure was fun doing mine. I feel that now that it's done, i can do some reall body work, and now that the e30 is parked, i can do what i want, and not have to worry about driving a half-assed car (got an M3 to do the dirty work)Nick

hey, i was just curious, i dont intend on doing anything like that. even if i was, i know i would be better off taking it to a pro. i like the chainsaw idea though, sounds like you could make some really stand out bumpers with thatOriginally posted by JordanQuestions like these are exactly why I say you need to pay a pro.Originally posted by MattM20hey jordan what did you use to cut the bumper? and did you just sand it afterwards to smoothen the edges out?
