Air Outlet Trim (behind vent window)

have a question regarding the air outlet trim behind the vent window. I was cleaning it the other day because i noticed some black butyl like substance leaking from the area.

Suspect is in this picture (sorry for the crappy quality). What is that black mushy round thing behind the trim? seems like some sort of cushion between that and the body. I can't seem to find a replacement for it on realoem

    any advice would be appreciated

its just a cusion against the body. I think it is part of the plastic.

Yeah, mine are all gummy too. What did you end up doing with it?

I just painted the moulding on mine black and the clips from the dealer fit, but is not snug up against the air outlet trim and will fall off. I think there is some sort of special insert and tool that the dealer should have given me to make these things tighten up. I am guessing its a little piece of plastic that goes inside the trim that will push out the clip and hold it in place..

        Any tips would be great...

Looking at your picture it looks like someone modified the back panel as the foam gaskets are all missing.

Each of the white plastic inserts has a foam donut grommet at the base, the black material on yours looks like sealant which has replaced this, and there is also a foam strip that is shown in my pictures below that you are missing.

These items help prevent water leaks from the rear window area.

Call Gutenparts and ask for windsail grommets as that is what you are looking for.

Well: the 'mushy round' thing is a rubber cone that is complementary to the studs and clips and AFAIK it was put there by the factory. I'd recommend replacing it with something equivalent (from an audio store possibly?) as well as replacing all of the clips/bushings.
