    1987 metal bumpers question

sorry but i never owned an E30 and i might this month, i really DONT like the metal bumper poking out at the front and back(this is called pre-facelift model?)

my question is, can they be removed and replaced with lets say an mtech 2 bumper ?

the car has a bumper like this right now

i want it to look like this

can it be done ? :D

edit: any good website or company in US that supplies good E30 aftermarket parts ?

You need the late 88-91 bumper shocks and that mtech bumper.

I would check your local "pick n pull" junk yard, might be called "pull a part" were you are.

I dont believe that you will be able to bolt on a back bumper without body work. The rear arches pre 88 are different. The front will bolt on though.

You'd be better served just going to Euro bumpers. They look better, in my opinion, and they will be easier to put on an early model.

So you have an 87 is and you actually want to change the part that makes it look awesome?

                  This x 1000.

Sure, plastic bumpers are better than the USDM diving boards but they're not right for an early chassis.

Paint and tuck them, they wont look near as bad. Spend the money on other parts.

As usual I see not much help and people telling how to mod the guys car...

                      But here is some help.

The front is straight bolt on. You do need to cut the tow hooks though.

Here is a write up, it's not Mtech2 but it is the plastic bumper swap, http://www.r3vlimited.com/tech/bumper/bumper1.htm I'll let someone chime in on the Mtech2 stuff...

The rear will need some work, due to the arch difference. http://www.r3vlimited.com/tech/bumper/bumper2.htm Factory Mtech2 rear is one piece, where aftermarket will be two piece from what I've been seeing.

are there other none-mtech bumpers that fit in easily ?

Just tuck the bumpers in and it won't look too bad.

Sell and buy a late model.

                            Or euro swap.

Yes, stock plastic bumpers from 89-91 will work, but since you got an early model, you'll still have to do what the 2nd link I posted up.
