    Goddamn gas smell.....

    Hey guys,

Yesterday night my friend ran out of gas.... so I helped him out by getting my gas gallon tank and taking it to his car to refill. While I waited in my car he said he only used 1/2, and that it was enough to get to the closest station and he put it in my trunk. Today I get in the car and I notice the overwhelming gas smell inside the car. I go to the trunk and I see that the cap for the gallon tank is not closed correctly and that it was leaking out gas. ( Just my luck )

Now my car has been open with windows down and the sunroof for the whole day and I dumped a can of lysol in it. Anything else I could do to get rid of that gas smell?

    Thanks,
    Erick

thats a tough smell to get out. Maybe take everything out of your trunk and spray it down a bit and clean with simple green or dishsoap?? Also get all the gas out of your trunk liner. thats probably going to be the hardest.

Now to come up with an explanation to people interested in my car that I don't have a gas leak and that the car is not going to blow up. :?

Let's see what I can do about this....

I had this problem when I was younger, my parents left for a while and left me with a car. I spilled about a gallon of gas in the trunk, awful smell! I shampoo'd the ENTIRE car 2 or 3 times and had every window and the trunk open for like 3 or 4 days and nothing would get rid of it. Finally, I just used some of that dry carpet sprinkle stuff and only spread it in the trunk. Let it sit for a while and vacuumed it up and the smell was totally gone.
            Good luck!
