Pop your trunk there should be little holes in it and thats for the ratched and extension so you can take the spoiler off. ;)

Im worrying about this too. Plan on installing my spoiler on Sunday if all goes good. I dont want to have to screw more holes than I need.
Is it better to use weatherstipping or adhesive?
Id like to keep the paint as unmarred as possible in case I change spoilers

I installed one on my 85 318i and got it centered on the car the best possible then put masking tap along the front edge and sides to line it up then Put a lot of magic marker on the tips of each stud and lined it up and pressed down leaving black dots on the paint, then I drilled. It came out centered but is a little to far back on one edge.

Here's another question. I'd also like to paint my spoiler black. What's the best way to strip off all the current paint, which is cracked like crazy? I'd like to remove it all and not damage the rubber whatsoever (which I assume strong solvents would do). Then paint it with flex-containing trim paint. Suggestions?

the best way to remove the paint involves either paint stripper or sandpaper, both of which might harm the rubber.

my question is this: if you're going to repaint anyway, why concern yourself with the condition of the rubber?

Well, I think the least amount of damage is a good thing. The surface should keep its shape and texture for best results when its resprayed. Sounds logical?

yes I agree. I wasnt too concerned though, and just lightly sanded then sprayed

                    I could try that...

                    Any other suggestions?

Guys, I have a spare decklid with the hole already drilled for a spoiler. I could help ya'll out by making a template on paper and send it to everyone to take away from the guess work if ya'll want.
