Can anyone tell me what this rear windshield antenna is? I thought it may have been for a phone or something but i can't find anything on google.

Why would it not be for a cell phone?

You must be younger than your car.

The internet was not always around. When you try and research items of this vintage, the chance of everything being documented about that time online is slim. There once was a time without social media.

It is very likely an old cell phone antenna. Delete it and move on

At one time it was a status symbol to have a car phone. The fake antenna made it seem that you were in that rarefied air of car phone owners. Not every one had a cell phone as they were big, bulky and expensive.

It's a cell phone antenna. The prior owner of my 318is had the dealer install one of those brick size cell phones(hard wired into the car) along with the cell phone antenna installed through the rear glass. I would like to remove it but I am afraid of screwing up the removal and causing a leak or cracking the glass.

maybe you should keep it, for that vintage class look?
