Ok I think I found what your looking for, check out the very first link here.

Ok I guess my last question is do I need clips to reinstall or not?

This was in Jordan's write up.

              "The part number for these clips is: 51 13 1 884 467"

It doesn't look like much fun removing the trim and reinstalling it...I got to ask why didn't you just paint them on the car like the rest of us?

I have a 318is. My trim comes stock shadow lined from the factory. Part # 51131953066

Anyway it flew off down the highway. I ordered the new part but I don't know if it needs clips or not. He doesn't mention clips for trim piece A. Trim piece A is what I'm installing.

There's 3 different clips listed in Jordans write up...The fact that yours just flew off on the highway makes me think your missing some clips somewhere on your trim. There .50 - .95 cents, I'd personally order a few of each, and replace the clips on that whole side of your car. You could ghetto fab it with silicone or something to lol.

there are no clips for that part. It just gets pushed into the line on the gutter and A pillar.

Ive parted 3 e30s and not one of them had a clip. There is only a small square piece that seals the gap between the long trim piece over the windows/door, and the C pillar trim. The long piece over the top of the doors pinches onto the gutter.

There are clips. 3 per side if I remember correctly. This is what they look like. Click image for larger version
