Help installing brake duct 1990 325is

Can someone help me install this piece? I've ordered the grommets and the plugs that slide down into it and fit in the grommets. My problem is that there is a tab on the top and bottom on the other side (you can see the top one a little in the pic). It doesn't slide behind the valence and if I push to pop it behind the rail on the valence, I'm sure it will break. For the life of me I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Do you need to take the fog light out to get that in?

Hope you get an answer. I am having an issue getting the piece in place. Way too tight to fit in place, so mine are sitting on the garage floor. Has your valance been pushed in from hitting a parking block?

Yes, what is the condition of your valence.. the sheet metal part? Most original ones by now have had some hard hits to make them misaligned.
