    Wrinkled coating on shock towers

What is the wrinkled coating sprayed on the shock towers? My 88 does not have it, but my 89 does. Can you get it off?

This is TJ's picture, but it shows what I'm talking about:

Its called cosmoline. BMW sprayed it on at the factory to prevent rust and the dealers were supposeed to remove it before delivery, but many didn't. I hear you can use Castrol Super Clean to get it off, but I haven't actually done it. On a side note, does anyone know if new BMWs get cosmoline? And is it cleaned?

Are you talking about the yellow stuff or the thick wrnkled stuff on the shock towers? Tee last post answers the yellow stuff question. The thick stuf is for sound deadening. It is a rubberized undercoating.
Just livin in the OC minus my E30
