Yes it can be painted, the cabrio's have painted trim. Get on your back and look up under your bumper, you'll see how to unscrew it. I'm not sure about the paint or prep work though.

You can paint. Best way is to glaze surface, then primer, then paint. You MUST use the correct amount of flex in the paint, or your paint will chip as soon as you snap the rear piece back onto the bumper. I would suggest getting some information online, or perhaps see if a paint shop is willing to give you some information on painting the trim. I personally don't know the process as my car was taken to a professional years ago to have all of my trim pieces, spoilers, and such painted.

I can say that you should use a primer that matches the paint color as closely as possible. Mine has taken a beating over the years and is starting to chip like crazy. I stripped the paint off of my rear trim, but I still have it up front. Click on my www and find a picture of my front end, it is painted.

or if you're just going to refinish them black, just sad, use some high buildprimer spray (since I'm assuming that it's got a lot of pitts n stuff) and use the OEM black trim paint. i used that on my bumper trim and it turned out great. i just masked off the area and sprayed away.

then insurance decided to replace my nice painted bumper which had a small scratch on it w/ one that wasn't scratched but had old trim... >.> o well
