There are some interesting thoughts here.

1.) CF will fit the same as FG, or Basalt, or even burlap for that matter, it's not the matrix, its the work to make the component.

2.) Weight savings, see above.

OP, will your guy be doing wet layup or vacuum infusion, or OOA prepreg? Will he be using full CF or including a core material? What type of quality resin, and type will he be using? Will he use in mold gel coat, or will the components be clear coated with automotive grade UV blocking clearcoats?

Just a few questions to start anyway.

I know the answers to a few of these and can get the rest.

1. The goal is near identical fitment using original mounting. I think the whole point is nobody likes the way FG fits and if this is done it needs to fit like oem.

2. Based on my conversations, yes there would be a weight savings but it's not going to be "huge". Most of what the kit is replacing is already abs plastic so I'm not thinking this is really about eight as it is as much about fit, and durability over what's currently available (and price over an original kit)

I'm not sure the method he intends on making them. Step one is to get him an original kit and then they will look at each part and figure out what the best approach is. But the part would be 100% cf not filled at all. One thing I don't know is if the "inner bumper" would be remade in carbon or all made in one piece. That's something that needs to be figured out.

We did discuss finish and there are a few options. He can leave it paint ready bare. They can clear coat them so it's bolt on in raw clear coat carbon fiber, or they have a paint booth they could paint them in oem bmw paint right when they are made. Paint would probably add to the coast but they could be shipped directly with original paint code matching paint already applied.

As for the resin and the weave. There are a lot, and I mean lot of options. He showed me his sample sheets and there must be 100 he keeps in stock. He said they have access to roughly 250 weaves that he would use for parts like this, and they are not all CF black. Basically anything under the rainbow could be done. All that said, he said to keep price at something reasonable we'd have to mainly focus on what they called carbon fiber 2.0. It's the normal black/grey weave. He showed me sample parts and it looks great.

What kind of cabrio skirts? Are you looking for mt2 skirts? Or you thinking something else?

I think as long as the minimum order exceeds 10 units these guys could make basically anything.

The weight savings would be a interesting consideration, the main thing I would be interested in is if can be created to mount like the original and not something hung on with dry wall screws like the fiberglass ones...

I dunno cost goes up with CF yet you will want to paint it once on the car. Kind of defeats the purpose unless the price is low.

The idea is that carbon is going to fit better, be more durable and not have the flexing cracking or chipping that fiberglass has. I think it will actually cost less than an original abs plastic kit also

I don't think you can actually get a kit for $2k. I think by the time you ship one that's in decent shape you are going to be at at least $2700 and most that are in good condition are asking more.

I think $2k prices are in the past. Looks to me from reading many old threads and posts 2-3 years ago you could get a kit for $2k all day long to your door. But not any more.

Im in my mtech 2 kit 1300 and that was with purchase of brand new valance I just need a spoiler.

Because of the shops experience in manufacturing for oem my guess is this could be available a lot sooner than November.

While I was at his shop he was showing me molds they are not messing around there.

Would this be a "limited" "semi custom" piece? Sure but it would also be made like it was a oem production
