Has anyone painted their headlight grilles GLOSS BLACK?

Just curious. I own a pair of euros that have a few small scratches. I am going to prep and paint them and I am unsure whether to use matte clear or gloss. Obviously, matte looks good, but I am thinking that gloss black may look better. Just curious if anyone has done this as I can't find any pictures on the interwebs.

Why would you want to? The paint would just get chipped off anyway. I wouldn't bother, but that's just me.

All explained in the first post. I paint cars on the side, I am not overly concerned about the chipping comment. Car does not see highway.

Personally, i think sem trim paint is about perfect. A balance between semi gloss and flat. You can get it in the spray bomb.

Thanks. I have read many people like SEM. Just wondering if gloss would look more "black".

Might be kind of cheap looking in gloss. You could try it to see, but SEM trim looks great.

My vert came with gloss black grills. I actually thought it looked alright, but I feel like it would only go well with cars that are black as well. Either way I eventually upgraded to a set up euro grills which are flat black and I think I prefer them over the gloss.

I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

I think it would probably look good on a black car as well

i did it to my US spec grills before i put on my euros about 8 years ago on my first e30. it looked ok. it was schwartz. grills were generic black with ppg shopline clear and they held up.

It does make the front look entirely too "plastic." like a toy. I think the contrast in gloss on the paint and the matte finish on the grills look more refined.

gloss black usually looks cheap, matte or the SEM should be good

if you want to leave the original color try a 50/50 mix of boiled lindseed oil with paint thinner, its been working on my car
