    87 convertible bumper conversion

    hey to everyone.

    i need some assurance.

as the title says i have a 87 convertible with the the chrome or alluminum bumpers on it. i've been looking at different threads about conversions on the older bimmers with diving board bumpers and it doesn't seem that easy. but now and again i see mention that the convertible aren't the case due to the way the rear fenders on all convertible were.

i've been gathering parts for the conversion and i almost have everything i need. i won't be doing it myself though so i just wanted an idea of what i'd be looking at when i explain the job to the body guy.

one last thing. i've been mainly seaching for front and side parts and always thought the rear was just the bumper. any thoughts on the rear valence or a rear apron. please post pics.

    thanks for the tips
    willy.

here you go Willy ... http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=76852

Zinno has US Bumper swap and added a Racing Dynamics rear apron ($325 ?)

Delphi it's on M Tech 2 rear, MT1 front and Kamei side skirts.

thanks, but you think it's pretty much remove and replace for those bumpers?

        your welcome.

did all my self., both my cab's are 87's too., so yes,it is a straight swap.

I only drilled a hole or 2 per side for the rear sliding brackets.
        it's an easy afternoon job.,

did pay $ 40 to get the apron screw to the rear bumper, well worth it as there's no room for error.

you'll need a late style valence with integrated foglights (as on Zinno).
use your original lip onto it, fits just fine too., see 2nd pic here ...

you say delphi has an m-tech 2 rear. is it a full bumper or the apron? i prefer the way that looks. but both your cars are nice. thats the direction i'm heading towards. a nice clean look. very nice cars. thanks for the tips.

            Willy,

MT2 rear it's a one piece of molded plastic,
that goes over a skinless US plastic bumper, it uses late style bumper shocks., bought Euro MT2 ones , so no side markers :)

I too like the clean look of it.

better half got bored of my asking her if full MT1 or full MT2 ?
she say's that I already know the answer !!!,
            full MT2 for her 20th birtday, May 07 :)
cheezus, it'll be my b'day that day too, only add 20+ years to my chasis, waaaHHH

thanks and here's a better pic and Zinno early on, and by the way, you could always color code the black bumper strips ...
