    Plastic Bumpers

I am currently swapping the bumpers from aluminum to palstic on my 87 325is. I was wondering if 600 grit Sand Paper is good for wet sanding down the bumpers and valance before primering it. What type of spray paint should I use to match my Schwarz body color? Thanks!

No, I am spraying the front bumper first, because its a direct fit. I am not even planning on touching the paint on the rear bumper until later. I just want to see how it will look first in the front.

        Hey Saul325is,

What are you doing to 'finish' off the area under the rear bumper?

I Rattled caned the Ac skirts on my 88 325is with Scharz paint. I used Krylon Fusion Gloss Black #2321 It turned out very well and is holding up great. No body yet has noticed any sort of color difference if You get up really close you can barely tell the difference.

Sweet is that automotive car spray paint? Do you have a pic of your rear skirt?

Saul go to a autoparts store or just a paint store and give them your paint code...they should be able to give you a color match to your factory paint in a rattle can. Btw when is the next GTG? UTC again??

Thanks man! Still have some work to do on the image, but oh well it was a crapy image to start out with :) . I'll try to get some daytime pics later, when I have time on my hands.

Havent gotten around to planning another one yet. Ive just been flooded with work. The transition of jobs is just causing more delay. Maybe the 8th of April? The last weekend of spring break?

Ever thought of fitting your 'is' front spoiler with the plastic bumper? I know that it will stick out too far just by keeping it as is. I have been toying with the idea of cutting it down and making it work with the smaller bumper. I had a little accident and the spoiler is cracked pretty bad on the driver's side, so it needs repaired anyway. I think it can be done, but as to how good it would look is another question.

If I have no luck, anyone out there looking for a good condition 'is' front air damn with fogs? I will repair and prime it before selling.

I dont think it would stick out. There was a white convertible on ebay with the plastic bumpers and early air dam and it fit fine. Looked horrible but fit fine.
                        Im now E30less.

Well maybe I will try. But I may do some work to it anyway to tuck it in a bit. I've never really seen one, so I wasnt sure how it would look. I do like that front end, but not sure if its going to work well. The tech at Bimmer magazine is an e30 fan and he really likes it. He stated, "it is the best looking and most functional air damn for the e30 chassis, unfortunatly it cannot easily be fabricated to fit the smaller plastic bumpered cars" Worst case, it looks like shit, I take off, sell and have the 88+ front valance like everyone else.. how boring.

I have an 89 front and rear bumper + valance sitting in my backyard right now. I am in the process of priming the bumpers and jet spraying them. I'll go ahead and fit the plastic bumper on the 87is front spoiler, just to show you guys what it looks like(it will only take me 5 minutes to put on the front plastic bumper anyways, so no biggie).

Hey, if you could do that then great, at least I would have some idea as to what it would be like. I've got a guy who can get me a later valance at a decent price, but I guess the question is can I get an 'is' lip.
