I spent last night taking off the glue for window tint, so I thought I'd pass along some of what worked for me.
1.) I found this stuff at a local auto parts store called Tint-Off made by Axius. It seems like it's concentrated Windex, but it works really well to soften the glue. 1 bottle is exactly enough to do a BMW if you go easy on stuff. If you like to flood things, buy 2.
2.) On the rear window, I sprayed this stuff on, let it sit 5 mins., then scrubbed the rear window with a plastic bristle brush, like a potato scrub brush. It would break up the surface of the glue, then spray some more and wait 5 mins. Let the stuff do the work. Work one area at a time. I did the rear in 2 sections.
3.) Don't bother with paper towels. Buy a sack of shop rags - they hold up to the scrubbing.
4.) A straight razor scraper is best on the other windows, but that's a pretty well known thing.
5.) Just pull the glass out of the doors. Takes 5 minutes and is a lot quicker to do that then clean up little gooey strings off the door panel.
6.) Have a bowl big enough to dip your hands in with warm soapy water - much quicker to get the little goo strings off your fingers.
7.) work neatly - little goo strings are hard to get off the interior, so don't drop them in the first place. keep a little jar to drop the crap off the razor scaper into.
8.) If you have a 2 door with pop-out rear windows, undo the phillips screw on the lever and brace the window out. That way the little goo things hit the ground rather than your interior.
All in all, easy work - just time consuming and tedeous. Took me 4 hours and a 6-pack, start to finish.
No more 18 year old, mostly faded tint - Yeaaaaaa!
