They are, I tried to use mine a couple of weeks ago in my 87 and didn't like them one bit. They were loud.

HAHAHA the same thing happened to me but the passengers were still in the back.... it was like a gunshot going off behind your head and the sudden increase in pressure i thought was going to blow my ear drums... those bitches will never open again no matter how hot it gets

What I hate about those is that I have to crawl into the back seat area to reach the damned latches. When I'm driving along and decide I don't want them open anymore having to pull over to close them sucks...

I've toyed with the idea of retrofitting the electric latches that some minivans have onto mine. Unless I hit the lottery and have run out of every other possible project I doubt I'll ever bother with doing anything about it though...
