red tails - what paint did you use.

alright i'm in the process of painting my tails red, but when i went to go and pick up the testors candy apple red, they said that testors no longer makes that colour. is that true? if so what other colour can i use?

testors #1629 Red Metal Flake. thats what I used. not as bright as the candy red. i didnt want it to stand out too much, like brand new shoelaces on a old white shoe.

I used Testors ruby red metal flake the first time and then redid it with testors candy apple red. I like the candy apple red alot better.

i did it last week, candy apple. did one coat on amber, then another on everything but reverse light, then did a clear coat. they came out real nice, and are holding up so far, but its only been a week. real easy though

back to black or silicone treater shines it up alot. i dont like it to stand out too much tho.

how do you like the colour close up...it looks really close there. did you follow it up with a clear coat?

Close up the color is not bad, but it is a little darker than I would like. At a meet back in october someone actually thought I spent the $300 on the real thing. They were really surprised when I told them it was just some spray paint. Of course they were driving an e36.

Edit: I didn't use any clear coat. Just a few light coats of the paint.

Testors #1605 Transparent Candy Apple Red



2-3 coats and did everything but the reverse.

I used 1605 Candy Apple, 1 coat on the amber, 1 coat on the entire light. Came out perfect.
