    Hood lining

not really sure what subject this falls under but i just sent a new hood in to get painted after my car got back into a while ago and i dont know weather its neccesary to put the hood lining back on. whay purpose does it serve and is it that important? i would like to leave it off because it rubs on my intake manifold

reduces the heat exposure to the under side of the hood to protect the paint

+1, the heat from the engine bay cracks the paint up and could cause damage to the metal hood itself.

you could use the 318 style foam ones, but they dont last as well as the one your car some with. just use the old one.

It also collects dirt and lets your hood rust and doesn't let the snow melt.

what causes it to start to sag? my main anoyence is that is rubs on the manifold and the airbox. it seems like its glued in the middle, it that holding it up there?

I rip mine out off every car that i get. On my two e30's they was held in there with plastic screws.

The 3 pieces of foam and the one piece insulator quiets
things down, valve tick, and protects the paint from heat damage.

Yours sags because it's old, new ones lay nice and flat.

I ran just the 3 foam pieces, looks better/cleaner.
