I agree^. I think your car would look much better shadowlined myself. I got my black kidneys off of ebay for cheap and the quality/fit is excellent despite the fact they are not factory parts.

I threw on black kidneys on my schwartz and it looked like a nasty VW. Some zinno/henna cars can pull of black kidneys but keep yours as they are.

black kidneys really only look good when you do shadowline around the windows. then if you shadowline it, the chrome kidneys wouldnt look bad if you switch em out. id say no with the smoked out everything. turn signals/headlights look good, but if you did that, put red foglight blanks in. do a search for egk2's red car. that was a good looking red car with smoked headlights, smoked turns(i believe), shadowline, and black kidneys.

I prefer chrome, even with shadowline. There just wouldn't be enough contrast with everything including the kidneys being black. I think the chrome sets off the shadowline nicely. However, I definitely prefer shadowline to chrome trim, but for the kidneys, I'd keep them chrome.

Edit: Wow I just realized this thread is from last year. Shows how much I was paying attention. I promise I won't try to make any bondo cupholders. ;-)

Just say no to black kidneys. Chrome kidneys are a BMW tradition.

i can't remember where i read this before but someone had suggested getting hockey tape or electrical tape and taping over your grill. stepping back and seeing how you like it yourself on your car.

doesn't sound like that bad of an idea. you should try that.

dueling was also a tradition. stressing the WAS here.

if the black kidneys fit better with the overall look of the car (aka shadowlined, no chrome bumpers, etc) than go for it.

being chrome though, is no bmw tradition. the shape and idea of the 'kidney' is, but the tradition of a chrome grills is a universal idea.

that would be like claiming its a bmw tradition to put their emblem on the hood.

The chrome surround is what makes the double kidney-shaped grille stand out. So while the use of chrome in and of itself may not be unique to BMW, its application serves a distinct purpose in this case which is to highlight a traditional design element.

                                To each his own.
