    Detailing Inquiry

    Hey guys,
I am looking to get an orbital/buffer to polish and wax my car with i was looking around and stuff and i was wondering a couple things. I see a lot of the random orbital or dual action stuff i assume that is good but not sure exactly why i could spout some random guesses but they'd be based on nothing. Overall if anyone uses an orbital i am wondering what kind you would recommend. there are some 30 dollars ones 50 dollars ones up to like 150dollar ones i am not sure the difference is it worth it to go expensive? Thank for the input everyone.

I would stick to stuff from www.griotsgarage.com

They have the best detailing supplies out there, and if you call they can even help answer some of your questions.

+2 on Autogeek.net. I buy from them time after time.

Out of my own experience I recommend the Porter Cable 7424 orbital polisher.

I think it depends on what you are doing with it.

Both mine and my wifes car were professionally buffed. A real buffer can do tremendous damage to a car, or it can make the paint beautiful and smooth. It is tedious and demanding work, a MAJOR pain in the butt. I pulled ALL the trim off of the car, lights, grilles...and I wish I had pulled the windows.

This is an excellent reason to use the services of a pro...but $300 is what I would think minimum for a job like this. Find a detailer and agree on a price BEFORE you do anything.

Afterwards, you will find you paint fades quickly. After all, it is about 20 years old, is it not? This is an excellent time to use either high-end or cheap crap to maintain your finish. Personally, I use Meguires "Cleaner Wax" and a $20 orbital "buffer" with a lambswool pad, then remove the wax with microfiber towels. I have wonderful success, but is it show quality? Hell no. Is it a 20 year old car with crappy paint but I still want to shine? Hell yeah, there ya go.

            GL!
            Luke

              Can't be beat:

Griot's sells a very similar one.

You pretty much can't burn/damage the paint with this style buffer. Griot's demoed their buffer at a car show and the guy was putting most of his weight on the buffer to show no matter how hard you press, you won't burn the paint.

                    LOL'd

I am sure some porn company probably does make an attachment or two for the lonely wife, that can be used with the polisher... :p
