The rear of my car is still up too high..

I've put H&R sport springs on my 318.. lowered the front perfectly. I love it. But the back is stillllll too high. My brother wants me to cut a coil off the rear springs. Has anyone done this? Have any advice?

    Thanks

Don't cut the coils. You can always remove the rear spring pads or get some thinner ones.

Hm.. I'm not too familiar with that idea. About how thick are those spring pads?
What can be the problems with cutting the coils?

      I'm still learning..

      Thanks

Take a good look at your rear spring, and you'll notice why it cant be cut.

Like Nick said, you can remove those spring pads, and lower it about 1/2 or so. If it will be still too high for you, I suggest going with different spring setup, and selling yours or something.

You can stop by and take a look at my car if you want when I am back home and I will explain the spring pad thing. I am tucking tire now and i need to raise it some.

Go look at a rear e30 spring then if you still think it can be cut without problems cut it.

                Sold it.

                  Thanks Josh.

Rachel, this shot is a little bit biased because I didn't quite resize both sides to be identical (thought I did at first but it's pretty clear I didn't). It did lower it a little though.

It was from swapping these two pads.

Took me forever to get an even drop front and rear on my 318 though.

Bill I still want the rear to sit up slightly higher. Otherwise I won't be able to run 225s on the current wheels.

Perhaps a couple of bags of concrete mix in the trunk would be simpler?

What springs would ya'll recommend that lower the rear of an E30 nicely?

after I blew out my rear shock mounts, the h/r springs got compressed and rode lower. enough so that there is no fender gap in the back. Also you might want to let them settle a little.

I have bilstein sports and h/r springs.

heh, a full tank of gas... seriously, try it. with soft springs it makes a big difference

ground controls lower the rear nicely, to whatever height you think is nice

If you're into car audio, dropping a sub and an amp will lower the car some more. You'd be trading off on some off the line acceleration though ;)

I'd say do the spring pads and stay with it till it settles a tad and you'll have to deal with it as it will be unfortunately.
