you will need a touch under a full gallon of base coat to do a complete color change inside, out and everywhere in between. This allows for 2 coats.

Figure at least that much clear, if not more.

        .

it really depends on the quality of the paint you buy. if you get a real high quality thats mixed 1 to 1, then you may only need 2 to 3 quarts, but if you buy cheaper paint that is mixed 2 to 1 you will probably need a gallon. you should ask the tech guy where you buy the paint how much you will need. if they don't know i wouldn't but it from them.

Yeah a figured around a gallon for base paint but i thot it would be like half a gallon for clear? im a right? also im not doing the door jems and shit like that, only the exterior because im repainted it same color.
Jordan you know how much clear the body shop used for your car?

I had 2 coats of base, and 3 coats of clear.

You will use more clear then base if you are doing it right...

um... i would venture a guess of 1 base coat, and 1 clear coat.

Damn thats good shit then if that paint stayed on my car for 16 years, 1 base ans 1 clear is fucking sick if thats it.

Well it is all sprayed by machines in a clean room/pressurized chamber. I mean you just can't get results like that down at Maaco.

1base and 1 clear from the factory is going to last a hell of a lot longer than a respray with the same.

Yeah, well not all paints are created equal. Price the difference between 1 gallon of PPG and 1 gallon of Glasurit.

Also the EPA is constantly breathing down the necks of those making paints. The paints we have today are no where near the potent goodness of yesteryears.

i have a quick question about paint
i took my car to my mechaninc a while back after he replaced my clutch and timing belt
i asked him if he could give me a ballpark estimate for spraying my es/is valence
he said since its so close to the ground i should use a urethane based paint instead of whatever is usually used
would this be better or is urethane base crap?
                          thanks

Most widely used automotive paints are urethanes... my car is.

off topic but, my dad works at PPG and he is taking in my IS lip/side skirts/rear valence into work and painting them. He found the paint code and he's gonna order somem more matching paint. There going to to use my parts as experments and put some prouducts on it that arnt out in the market yet. free paint work, hehe, but im doing most of the sanding, its all go tho!
