I have put up with my '87 325is door latches rattling since I bought it last month. After looking at them thinking adjustment, I realised they are very worn where the latch hits the metal striker; like 1/8". I also saw they are the same part number on either side, so I simply swapped them side for side on the car...voila, new latches!
I like zero dollar fixes, but you must remove the inner panel on either side of the back seat...as you loosen the mounting bolts you must hold the plate (behind the striker) inside the quarter panel, otherwise it will fall inside the quarter. Take my word on this, OK?
