    tinted window goo

my new to me 318 had ( at one time) tinted windows, that film stuff. PO pulled them off just before selling, he siad they were bubbled

but he did not clean them.
I tried adhesive remover, and even acetone, neither seem to work
what takes off that goo ???

50/50 mix of water and ammonia and a straight edge razor blade (side windows only)

Same mix on the rear window except use a chore boy copper pot scrubbing thing (pictured below) to scrub the rear window. Wipe clean with paper towels, lots of paper towels...

fyi!!!! you can use the chore boys on the side windows as well, although I have found in easier to use a straight edge razor blade as you can sling the elaphant snot after each pass with the blade. If you use a razor blade on the rear window it will ruin the defroster...

Doesn't the copper wool scratch the fuck out of windows? The green scotchbrite pads scratched up my windows.

No they do not, I used them for years when I had a detail business and a friend of mine who owns a tint shop let me in on their trade secrets to remove the glue. I am sure they can scratch the shit out of the window, but it doesn't take a lot of pressure to break the glue down with that 50/50 water/ammonia mix, very light rubbing is all that is needed...

Do you have a steemer? That and a razor blade will work best.

talked with a detail guy today, he said, 50/50 alchol with the scotch brites called "Dobbie"
but I too have scratched glass before
                  Ill try 50/50 alc
and then try 50/50 amonia and see which does better

my car is a vert, so I wont be doing the back "glass"

                  thanks all

both solutions worked good, but I stuck with the alchol as it stunk less
and only used a razor blade

                    thanks

                      Some info on hardness:

                      Hardness of some items:

2.2) Fingernail (will scratch 1-2 hardness)
                      2.5–3) Gold, Silver
                      3) Copper penny
                      4-4.5) Platinum
                      4.5) Iron
                      5.5) Knife blade
                      6-7) Glass
                      6.5) Iron pyrite
                      7+) Hardened steel file

On each level of the scale a mineral can be scratched by something of the same or higher level, but nothing lower.

^^^This is key. Copper is not as hard as glass therefore Can NOT scratch it. This is why you can only use diamonds to cut diamonds; there is nothing harder.
