What do you use to clean oxidation off aluminum wheels?

I neglected my wheels and now I have to deal with the oxidation caused by the salt and grime on the face and barrels.

I washed the wheels but this stuff just remains. I know I have to polish them by hand and with my Flitz buff ball... but any recommendations on a product to use to clean up the wheels some more before I hit it with the polish compounds?
