Removing shift knob?

stand over the console, grab the knob with both hands, and yank as hard as you can upwards. try not hitting yourself in the nuts though.

i predict immense comedy with this method...when using this method please have a friend with a camcorder handy for youtube purposes :p

I just replaced mine today. When I yanked, the knob came off but left the plastic insert on the shifter. Crappy 1984 plastic, just didn't wanna let go. Vice-Grips to the rescue!

i managed to miss my nuts, but i did it my jaw pretty good, had a fat lip for like a week.. LOL

I about threw my shift knob out the sunroof one day shifting into second... lol.

Its not possible to actually damage the shift linkage or anything by pulling on the knob really hard (whether in gear or not), correct?

happened to me me I threw it in 4th and hand the shift knob stuck to my hand.

I was driving with my buddy and we both thought it was quite funny actually.

Same thing happened to me on my brother's old E30. I wish I could be so lucky. My solution: Replace the stock shifter with something better and avoid the whole problem.

Seriously, just ease up on that bitch, give her a good massage, work her up and pop that bitch off.

I just put it in second and pulled really hard, and it came right off!!

Place duct-taped channel lock pliers around the lever below the knob. Use a slide hammer with the nut under the jaws of the pliers and pull the hammer weight upward. Pop.

Actually, I just made that up. Let me know if it works; I need to swap a shift knob and my nuts are still swollen up from R&Ring my wheel bearings.
