VHT penetrating color dye on headliner?

Has anyone used VHT penetrating color dye on their headliner? My headliner is tan, but nasty with cigarette smoke stains. Would like to clean off as much grime as I can and then dye charcoal grey.

I'm thinking of doing mine in black also. Anyone ever try this?

I did mine with special carbon fiber paint.

My car is like 10Lbs lighter now.

Cool that you ADDED paint and it actually lightened your car. That carbon fiber shit is truly amazing.

I forgot if I used VHT or not, but basically I removed the seats, and taped all the areas I didn't want to get overspray and went to town. It didn't come out great, but worth the $10 hassle if your headliner is aged....I am not sure if the black oem headliner is still available or not, that would be the way to go imho

The 91 318is is black, but I've heard it's really a PITA to install.

It's not exactly easy, but there are some good threads on how to do it once you remove glass.

That may be the plan when it's time to remove windows for paint, but was hoping for the quick & easy deal for now to see how it looks.

Especially wondering about the dye rubbing off the sunroof liner after opening/closing a few times.

"Quick and easy" and "mask off your entire interior" are mutually exclusive.

Just be ready for it. It is gonna look great if you do a decent job, but spraying 2.5 cans of paint on your headliner is gonna suck balls.

Just be ready for it, OK?

Least of your worries, I would say.

just take the damn thing out. Spraying those cans sideways will most defintely be a pain in the ass, Esp if they arent spraying a good mixture due to being turned sideways....Yes i know what you have to do to take the headliner out. Just invest in a lock strip tool.

I bought a lock strip tool: fuck that.

I use a small plastic putty knife and spray silicone.

Last 2 have gone far easier.

                            FUCK THAT NOISE.

I will NEVER remove a headlinder just to dye it. And I'm not spraying mine when I do it, I'm using sponge brushes and doing it by hand, the way Levent did the one on Vlad's 318is.
