    Rear Deck

Are there any steps to dying the rear deck? I want to have a black rear deck so I thought that dying would be the best & cheapest route
    any suggestions?

rear deck being the deck with the speakers and the seatbelt holder between the rear windscreen and upper of the rear bench

Dying works, naturally. However, I had very good results with recovering, since my old (blue) rear deck fabric was falling off. I used Walmart black felt and 3M fabric adhesive, and the felt has not showed any signs of fading in the year and a half it's been like that.

I've pretty much told you all there is to it. Grab two yards of black felt at walmart, a can of 3M fabric adhesive from the same store, take out your rear deck, rip off the old blue carpety stuff, spray down glue, and carefully lay down the felt. It's kind of a bitch, so you have to be careful to get it to look decent.

I unfortunately can't find a pic of mine at the moment.

Spray the deck heavily, spray the carpet heavily, LET DRY for like 10 minutes, or 3 in hot weather...then, working from the middle to the outside, stick it in place.

Cut the edges with razor blade, making sure to leave carpet to fold over like BMW did.

Easy stuff, I do them in 15 minutes. It might take a noob 2 hours to get through it.

HUGE improvement, far better than paint/dye.

Luke, what fabric do you use/where do you buy it?

interesting....if I were to spray what could I use to minimise the smell?

i don't think i'll recover because the fabric is in place and in pretty good condition

I use Foss "Sunburst" or "Spectrapile" and AFAIK, the shit at WalMart is Spectrapile...if it isn't, it feels the exact same.

Either way, Foss is generally available at any Upholstery Supply house.

I do not use cans of spray glue, though. I use a $10 spray gun and "DAP" brand "Landau Top Adhesive", but I would not recommend it for newbies, as it sticks so hard you cannot fix a mistake...you will rip the carpet or the rear deck before you separate the glue.
