Has anyone tried to mod a mk.I GTi seat for an e30?

So I just found some really nice VW Mk.I GTi seats in the black-hole that is my Dad's garage. I'm assuming that they are from the '84 GTi that we had when I was a kid (it was sold, then totaled by the next owner, then bought back and parted out). Anyway, when I asked, my dad said just get them out of his garage, so free seats!
They are the really, really cool strippey red cloth ones and I am thinking they might look nice in either my e30 eta or my e21. The one problem is the funky three-point mounting system in the Mk.I Golf seats.
Has anyone ever modded these or similar seats for use in an e30, or e21?

Here's a google-snatched picture of the seats in question:

Knowing what the 3 slider system looks like, it would take quite a bit to make them work. Pretty much just cut off all the brackets and start from scratch.

I did it for my 2002. The seats were never low enough and I never got the mounts strong enough. It's just not worth the effort.
