T.J, as much I wish you were right, its not anymore. More people have it for the "stunna" effect than anything. People buy C/F wth 500000 pounds of gel coat on it.

Robocop...I knew I had just seen it recently.

And thanks SkaFrog, I knew I wasn't the only one thinking that.

The dash is not structural - using carbon fiber to build a dash is beyond stupid.

it's just so "poser" to me. All for "full race" looks.

I think that's a bunch of urban myth... F1 has a carbon fiber monoque.

also my car as many of you know drove 120ft off a mountian side, not one pannel on the car was not damaged (well maybe the sunroof) that includes my carbon hood. the hood didn't explode like everybody says carbon does.

IF/when I get the car back, I'll take pics of the hood damage

f1 uses a totally different process than a carbon hood... its dry carbon

and CF doesnt explode it can take a pretty big impact but when it does crack its not a smooth crack its razor sharp strands along the edges of the cracks...

you see it alot in damaged bike parts such as profile bars and campagnolo record seat posts and at the chainstays and seat tube on some carbon road bike frames with lots of miles from hardcore riders

This peice must be from a completely finsihed and all out e30, and the owner just needs to lighten his wallet. i say send me the $1300.00 so i can fix my front end after i ram your car in the back end, that will make it faster, well maybe just for a second or two.

What really goes through someones head when they spend over a grand on a sigle item fro their car that does not mean more pistons or better cornering? I mean the foam (or whatever) dash we have are pretty light to begin with, how much could CF knock off of it, and will things ever line up the same, etc...

Gotta agree. I broke an Easton CF bar last summer and it would draw blood if you got poked with the broken end.

I'd hate to break my seatpost halfway through a DH run... OUCH.

Yeah, why anybody needs anything lighter than titanium or anything stronger than alloy/chromoly is beyond me.

Somehow I don't see a carbon fiber dash shattering in a crash when the brunt of a head on collision is taken by the front bumper, front sheet metal, engine, etc... I mean, look at Josh's wreck. His dash didn't get affect nearly at all.

Oh my god, spend $1300 on a dash, gee, wonderful idea. Or you could buy a M50 for that and just take out your damn dash if you want to save weight.
