    Seat belt reals

Are they serviceable, can they be adjusted? One of my seatbelts on the convertible doesn't retract fully, it's lost all of it's pull. Before I rip it all apart I'm just wondering if anyone has done it before.

Al, "bluedevils" on the 2002faq forum, rebuilds seat belts & reels. Contact him from this link to see if he's familiar with E30 setups.

I do...by accident. you CAN retension the stock belts, but be prepared for a lot of trial and error, some cuts and a lot of cussin'. I have to look at my stock belt retractors when i get home and see if i can recount it for you. basically one side has the spring for the retraction, and the other side has the pretension mechanism. obviously you don't want to mess with the pretension side. What happened to me is...i pulled the spring side cover off and that thing just EXPLODED everywhere. i unraveled it, started from the inside and slowly wound it up again, put the cover back on and tested retraction after the belt was fully pulled out. If you rewind the spring too tight it will limit how much the belt can be pulled out, and if you rewind the spring too loose it just won't retract. after a little while i got used to pulling the cover off without the spring going everywere, and i could adjust the spring by a turn or two, put it back and try again.

all in all, it probably took me an hour and a half, the wife helped me for a while but she got bored. haha
