check panel and headlight switch loose

I've been looking around all the e30 forums and haven't found anything close to what i need to know about interior parts fitment. i recently bought a 89 325i and am going through the process of fixing a lot of what has gone by the waist-side over it's previous years of ownership. here are the current problems i haven't figured out yet:

    1. the check panel (behind the rear-view mirror) has metal clips on the top side to 'snap in' to the front plastic part of the headliner where the visors are. the side closest to the window however don't have clips and appear to just have a small groove which i'm guessing uses the edge of the opening to grab onto...well it doesn't grab anymore and i have a check panel half hanging out of the opening. it doesn't appear the sides of the check panel are too worn down, but is there supposed to be additional clips or anything to keep this panel in place? is the old vinyl coming off of the old front visor panel causing this problem?

    2. the headlight switch in my car pops out when you pull the switch out to turn on the parking and low beams. it seems secure on the right side closer to the steering column, but near the door car it's not secured at all. do the switch panels have clips on either-side and mine is just broken? do i need a new one?

    TIA

There are 2 nuts on the back of the headlight switch trim panel. Lower right and top left, I believe. The studs are on the trim plate. If they're gone you need a new trimplate.

        Also, it's wayside not waist-side. :D

:D thanks. but if the nuts go onto studs from the back of the trimplate and are on the backside, how would you screw them on if they're on the inside?

you have to reach up behind the dash. I think they're 8mm

Nah. It's been so long since i was rooting around in there. I thought there were 4 spring clips on it tho.

Honestly, you're probably NEVER going to take it out, just put a lil clear RTV on the back of it and be done w/ it. it'll always be removable later.

newman is spot on, the two 8mm particularly the one on the upper left is a fun one to remove/put on.

the check panel fitment. Yes there should be two metal clips that hold it one attached to the sunvisor panel, common for them to come out. Look to see if they are in there, dont play with the clips too much, the bar the clips slide into is glued to the sunroof panel also common for them to pop out.

the check panel may be fine. your overhead piece may be warped thats what happened in mine and i had to replace it. or just fold up a piece of paper and wedg it in there. ghetto but it works
