    1. In regards to the sub, that's not true, not in the slightest.

    2. It was an option, I'm fairly sure it didn't come for certain on any cars.

you think? I mean the box my sub is currently in is gigantic and ported, i thought the whole point of the boxes that mount right at that hole is so sound can pass easier thru the opening?

You need to talk to Luke (StereoInstaller1) about that, he knows more about car audio than I could ever claim to.

They came in nearly all iX's, part of the whole cold weather package thing.

I think most 4-doors had them, which is part of why the iX probably had them. Half of its purpose was to make the ski-hole possible.

Mine came from a '85 eta, but it also came with a 3 burner Coleman stove.

well i must be one of the only ix's without one, course mine is a 2door but why not put the ski hole pass through for a car meant to be used in the snow

Mine is a two door ix, doesn't have it.

                      I was pissed.

However, the bass manages to get through. It isn't loud, but I don't have much power (didn't need it, was previously in an excab truck.). With more power, it shouldn't be a problem.

Question: Can you put folding armrest seats into a non folding armrest car? It would just snap in the same right?

same here, bolted right in, and i pulled it from a four door early model at a local yard,
didnt bother to check the year. what i thought was weird that the car had front comfort
seats and a nice fold-down center backseat with headrest in the back.

Pretty much all E30s came with the provision for the pass-through rear seat in the unibody. The seat was an option on all models IIRC. Cars not equipped with the seat from the factory had a metal 'plug' in place of the hole in the body pannel between the trunk and the passenger compartment. This plug can be knocked out if you so desire though.
The exception is very early cars which don't have the hole nor do they even have locator marks to cut it out. My car is an August of '84 two-door and is one of the ones without the provision. I'm guessing they changed the design of the unibody in late 84 or 85...
