    MTech 1 steering wheel

I found an mtech 1 wheel in pretty good shape at the yard. Pulled it off of an '87 iS. I have 4 questions..

    1. Will this just swap right over in place of my 4 spoke uglyness, or do I need a spacer or anything? ('89 325i)

    2. I had one of the dudes at the yard actually cut through the column on the donor car because after loosening the bolt the wheel wouldn't come off and he said "the solution my friend, is to cut it off." Do I need some kind of fancy steering wheel puller to get my old one off?

    3. On the back of my wheel, on the lower spoke, there are the characters " KBA 70 074" I did a google search for just that and the only results were german sites/forums, but they were definitely all regarding an MTech steering wheel. Not even one english result was returned. Does this mean I have a super rare euro wheel or does it mean I have a steering wheel with numbers on it and who cares? I've seen a couple of FS threads with pictures of the back of these wheels and none of them, that I have seen, have these characters inscribed.

    4. Is the horn MAGIC? There are no wires.. Metal to metal contact or something?

    Thanks!

Before you remove your existing wheel, make sure you straighten you wheel/wheels, or at least note how the wheels turned, so when you put the new one on the spline it sits straight in the same position as the orig.

When you remove the center cap from the x4 wheel there's a nut in there (can't say what size) you'll need a long stem socket to get in there and undo it, dont lose the washer! and you just pull your wheel off the spline.
Then its just switching wheels straight over, put the washer and nut back on, make sure its pointing straight and your done. Easy!
And yes the horn is metal to metal magic, I though the same thing the other day when I put my wheel on lol.

I have no idea about the rarefactor though..

From what I remember, it is in fact 22mm. Horn is MAGIC... I had the same exact question when installing my m-tech 1 wheel, and horn just works... no wires or anything hehe. However, you WILL need a spacer for it to fit properly.

You don't need a spacer, In my old eta it was just plug and play. worked fine.

I have read varying opinions on this and can't seem to find the answer. It's got to have something to do with airbags right? Since my car is non-airbag and the donor car was non-airbag, it should be fine? maybe that is why you had an issue MrSlacker? yours is a 91 and is therefore an airbag car yes?

Yes, my car had an airbag. There is really no harm in installing it without a spacer. If it works - GREAT. If it doesnt - add a spacer ;). Make sure it doesnt wabble and doesnt rub against anything when you turn it.
