The mechanism to adjust the angle of the seat back does not work properly. Has anyone been able to swap the mechanism with that from a standard e30 seat? This is in a cabrio btw.

You may not have to swap it
Just take it apart and fix somethingYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I've got the same problem, and have been looking for a solution. I don't have sport seats, but I have what I think is called "Semi-sport" seats. (correct me if I'm wrong). Not the ones that come standard, but ones that are a little cushier, and full leather, not leatherette.
Anyway, I can adjust the back of the seat up and down, but it doesn't retract automatically. Also, I would love to be able to raise the ass part of the seat just a little higher, so I can actually see out the windsheild, but that mechanism seems to be dead as well.
I hear this is a very common problem.'87 325i "Chewey" (RIP, my beloved)
