Gas / Accelerator Pedal Removal for Carpet Removal ??

I'm trying to remove the carpet from my 1990 325is (doesn't need to go back in, but I'm selling it, so I want to minimize damage) and I have cleared all hurdles except the gas pedal. I've tried to find all pertinent threads / posts on R3V and found the image below, but I'm still having trouble removing the base of the gas pedal (I don't think I have to disconnect it from the linkage on top for my purpose).

I don't know where the clips are that the second pic below is referring to. Is there a clip in the back that needs to be released? (I saw one elsewhere for a different BMW model, but couldn't find one on my E30) There is a ~1/4" rectangular gap in the center of the bottom edge of black plastic (just above where the screwdriver is wedging in on pic 2 below), but that doesn't seem to release the pedal from the metal inserts connected to the floorboard).

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

It turned out to be easier to disconnect the top of the pedal from the linkage by removing the c-clip, bending the pedal back (towards where the driver's seat would be), and then pulling the carpet over the pedal (you will need a cut in the carpet of an inch or two extending the hole around the pedal for wiggle room). If the c-clip isn't damaged during removal (pull the center of the "c" straight away from the shaft it's on), it should be reusable by snapping it back in place.

Even after the carpet was completely out of the car, I still didn't see the clips on the base of the plastic pedal (the ones referenced in the diagram above) to release it from the floorboard.

I hope this helps anyone in a similar situation down the line...
