So I was wondering is it stupid to have a few extra gauges in your car. Sometimes I would like to know a little more of whats going on with my car just in case something is failing or not working right. But I've heard people say its stupid unless your boosted or built. So what's every one's opinion?

I can see where one would think oil pressure is a concern no matter what you might be driving. I've always wondered why BMW never installed them (even on the M3's, where you have a next to useless oil temp gauge...). Shit, even my old '93 Cherokee with possibly the world's most bulletproof straight 6 (4.0 HO) had an oil pressure gauge. That said, I don't have one in my iX. And probably never will, as I personally am not concerned about it. I do have one in my M3 though, as that motor is just to f'n much money to risk. That and I don't trust the e34 oil pump 100%...
Other than that, you're probably wasting your money. Boost, fuel pressure, AFR's, voltmeter, etc. etc., unless you're built.
BTW I voted no, just because gauges on a stock M20/10/42 are kind of a waste, IMO. Except, like I said, for maybe oil press.1991 318iS

I vote for a big-ass 6 inch reverse glow tach with shift light screwed on top of your dash.Comment

I voted yes, if it's tasteful. I like having oil pressure and temp, especially because of track days/boost, and of course, a boost gauge. There's not a huge need for anything more than that, though.Comment

eh, if its not a race car i wouldn't bother, but i also agree about BMW not installing an oil pressure gauge from the factory..... instead of that stupid fucking "fuel mileage" thingy, put in an oil pressure gauge.Comment
