Machine washing Houndstooth?

Would it be ok to remove the skins from a houndstooth interior and put it in a washing machine with some towels? I know vinyl clothes can be washed like this so i dont see why the seat skins couldnt be. Of course no dryer action, just air dry.

I did this to my seats awhile back, had to wash 3 times before the water came out clean.
