I don't even know where to start

So this project is now in my hands:

exterior: was rear-ended. not too bad, needs new bumper, trim, fender work. Paint is shot.

motor: plan to overhaul. I have the factory turbo to slap on the M30 and will megasquirt it. other than that needs a new fuel tanka nd some exhaust repair.

    Interior:
I'm at a loss. I have no freaking idea what to do here.. the roof liner is holding up ok but ALL of the trim in there is getting pretty ratty. The dash is split massively, loose in a lot of areas, missing knobs and shit. the seats are showing foam in several places, and that foam looks like it's quickly turning into dust. The windows and stuff seem to work but only if the door is open??
That will be a fun gremlin to track down.

To be honest I'm considering pulling the motor and interior out, starting from square 1.. but the part that scares me is what to do about this interior. Should I make all new shit out of fiberglass or what?

no.. we thought it was at first but after a while determined that it just had a bunch of alpina goods tossed in. It does seem to have the euro trim and a distinct lack of english on the check/dash.

i think i'm gonna go all-out custom fab dash and center console. I think I can retain the old-school feel of it but make it into a nice surface.. maybe even sneak in some cupholders. not sure on the seats if i will buy new and fit them or get these redone. I can visualize the potential but the thought of tracking down things like door handles scares me.

I'm going to modernize a little bit of the exterior trim too, like around the mirrors and stuff the way the e30's were done just looks better.

looks like a good car to make a project out of. Has the front euro bumper + airdam so you're set there.

Check out Bigcoupe.com, that's probably the best e24 forum.

The interior shouldn't be too hard to replace for a few hundred. e24s are still pop-in up the junkyards from time to time. Possibly look into a L6 interior, I don't know if it's swappable into the earlier e24s but the L6 has all leather trimmed dash, consoles, door panels, etc. It looks really good

there's a great condition 6er for sale on milwaukee's craiglist. you could keep the emblem and do a full car-swap. i'm sure you can even find the emblem-to-car harness to ease the work.
