what glue have ya'll used when you put a different shift boot on your plastic piece?

Spray adhesive. There's a few options from different brands.

double sided tape.

3M adhesive works greats.

I didn't have to use any kind of adhesive on my last aftermarket boot; the ring fit so tight in the console that the boot didn't budge at all. It was in the car for over a year with no problems.
