Storage tray screws wont go in?!?! WTF?

So after fightin with my e30's dash to replace the OBC lights (which I successfully replaced :D) I had to remove the 2 upper hvac screws (where the hazard switch is) and the blank (where the second crew is). I also had to remove the 2 lower screws that you can feel, just not see.

After putting everything back together again, I cannot seem to get the lower screws in again. I do recall hearing a slight metallic sound when I was putting everything together again (like brackets falling behind the dash). Are there some brackets that hold everything in place that I'm missing?

    thanks in advance

there is a bracket on the right side screw I know that has a little clip (forget what their called) but it does come off, probably did in your case, I believe the same clip is there on the left side, you can get those clips at any decent hardware store, they are the same type of clips that are all over the place in the dash. someone should know what they are called. check realoem, you'll see what im talking about.

You definitely need those little clips to hold the panel into place. I got tired of fighting with mine I glued them on to the panel so they wouldn't slide out.

There are a couple of these clips that the lower screw goes into to secure the HVAC panel in.

The easiest way to see them and to reinstall them is to remove the shifter console and poke your head underneath.

It is a pretty simple procedure.

Remove rear ashtray and you will see one 10mm nylon nut holding the rear section down.

Remove nut and then pop off shift boot bottom so you have room to wiggle the rear section back a couple of inches.

To remove center console pull out front ashtray and remove 2 black screws. Disconnect lighter plug.

The pull up shift boot (clipped in), pop out all window switches and window circuit breaker.

Remove the 10mm nylon nut and pull center section straight back to remove.

You might have a couple of plastic pins on the sides if you are unable to cleanly pull the center section back.

            That's it!
