    I want to lift my carpet to inspect for rust....

    Is there any special tools required? I've pulled out my front seats in the past to shampoo the carpet with ease.

    nope. take the door sills off for a peek, or if you actually want to take the whole thing out its not very hard. just nuts and screws.,

          The stud on the other end of this stud rusted at some point and spread to the sheet metal over a period of years. It even rusted through the heat shield...




          All fixed and god help this car if any water even dares go through these seams.

            I did that and found a surprise,

              I think gluck and I had the exact same failure point. The stud holds aluminum foil heat shield under the car. It rusted up into the floor pan on mine too.
