Reupholstering Sport Seats

Yes they do, all mfg i have ever seen do it including bmw. Also you are right, it is a matter of preference. I call the preference wasting money. I would bet my last dollar that i could use a high end synthetic leather to cover a set and if you asked somebody which they thought was the nicer material would pick the synthetic over the leather. It would also last longer then the leather and be only about 1/4 the cost.
I work with leather and synthetics every single day. -
Man, I'm into redoing my cloth sport seats with factory covers, and I'd charge 300 in labor just to put them on. I'm just doing the bottoms as my backs are in excellent condition, there is a lot to take apart. For a point of reference, my covers (cloth bottoms only) were 300 each from BMW.

I don't think that is entirely accurate for high end cars such as BMW, Benz, etc. I know some stitch vinyl into the leather to blend and save money. But we aren't talking about buying a car we are talking about fixing a set of seats the right way. As originally done. I just finished reupholstering my vert seats in Italian leather. it is ALL leather. cost me almost $1500.00 for the kit. mind you my labor was quite some time. but to me it was worth every penny.
I guess it just a matter of preference I suppose.Leave a comment:

lol you think that car companies use all leather on their leather seats? Only about 20-30% of a "leather" seat is actually leather.I wouldn't....everyone switches to vinyl thinking their getting a deal and then when they try to sell them they can't get their money back. If there are no rips in the leather; which in most cases they do. I would just re dye it and bring it back to new with a little elbow grease. A) the leather becomes fresh, and it stays leather and you'll get your money back on them if you sell. Vinyl is the cheaper route to go.
but that is just my humble opinion...lol.Leave a comment:

That seems very cheap $400 for both. He must be using really cheap vinyl and if he is going to take seats apart make new covers and put back together and not do any sort of foam work they will still look horrible. Foam needs to be steamed back to life if possible or new bolster and inserts made which can be another $200. Good european vinyl should cost around $35 a yard and will look pretty close to leather. That most people wouldnt tell the difference. So remember you get what you pay for.Leave a comment:

vinyl is little bit easier to re-upholster because its more stretchy, and try to talk him down to 350... you can paint door cards your self, 2 cans of vinyl paint.Leave a comment:

Yep
True
I'll stick with vinyl only becuase I don't want to reupholster the whole interior. My front seats are actually in great condition, I just want sport seats.
Talked the guy down to $300. Just haven't gotten to it. He said he will reupholster them with the same stitching layout/pattern and stuff. We'll see.Leave a comment:

If you do recover them, I HIGHLY suggest going with cloth centers and vinyl bolsters. Cloth is cool in the summer and warm in the winter, not to mention holds you in the seat better.Leave a comment:

I would just change those, the foam is probably no good anyway, right. You can find a mint set of front sport seats in black vinyl for about 400-450 I say just replace themLeave a comment:

I wouldn't bother...those are parts seats..some things are just beyond repair...lol I'd strip the leather, inspect the sponge and frame to make sure these are sound and then go from there. If the these parts are good and the seat shocks still work along with recline etc. Get new leather or whatever and fix em. if not. part it.Leave a comment:
