    Electric Window Retrofit

Just purchased the later model window mechanisms + motor for my 1986 320i out of a 88 320i. The difference between FL and non-fl window operation is amazing, so much faster and quieter... Just need to know the specifics of installing these, as I'm sure someone else on here has done them - is there any wiring that goes to a non-existant 'option' that wasn't installed on my car? (Sorry but I haven't gone as far to take the door cards off yet! - Slack I know..) but I'd like to know what to expect in advance.

Would have loved to stick these in my old coupe before it was crashed as we spent so much time fucking around with the buggered motor.

Yea, those old motors have so many moving pieces, it's insane.

For the most part it bolts right up. one hole will need to be drilled, and when you are trying to install it, you'll see what I mean.

However, you'll need a couple of other things:

    The insane window gasket
And the pieces of metal holding the gasket inside the door. Since in the old motor, the window is bolted to the motor. Whereas, on the old one, it rests in there, and it needs something to guide it down.

      Hi Sean,

      Thanks for your reply.
Got everything I need and found out that even the motor plugs are identical. Whats even better is the fact that there is cabling for a switch (with plug) and a motor plug cabletied from the SA factory sitting there waiting to be used - and spare plugs from the centre console (Makes things almost too easy)

When I get around to installing them (That is one of the last things on my list with the project car) it should definately be a welcome change from the manual wind-downs.
