Extra detents on turn signal stalks

    Hi all,

I swapped in a used turn signal stalk assembly because my previous one wasn't throwing the stalk back to center when the steering wheel was centered. After driving with it for a while, I noticed that there is an extra position detent. FOr example, then you go to signal for a right turn, you push the stalk up, and it 'clicks' into position and your turn signal oscillates between on and off. Now imagine that you could go one more position beyond that in the same direction the stalk was moved, and that's what mine does. THis is the case for both directions one would move the stalk in.

My question is: why is that extra detent there??

I also noticed an additional wire on the switch module, but there was no where to plug it into, so I left it hanging.

Any clarification would be a big help.

    Thanks

      Yup...Euro stalk

I have that feature on my '85 323.

It's a parking light. It turns the indicators on steady for whichever side of the car is facing the street.

Our cars don't come prewired with that, unfortunately. It's a really cool feature that I wouldn't mind having, because I've had to parallel park a lot recently....

Its a nifty feature, but kinda useless if you don't live & park in super-narrow old-world cities IMO (unfortunately, Pittsburgh qualifies as this). Of course, there's always the point that most Americans don't know WTF it means - my 911 has the feature, and the one time I used it when I parked somewhere particularly precarious, I was at a restaurant and the waitress came up to me and asked if I "drive that old black Porsh" and told me I need to turn my lights off. When I thanked her and didn't move (I've left it on overnight on accident and it doesn't kill the battery), she came flying back 5 minutes later to remind me (this time very concerned), I thanked her and didn't move again, telling her I'd jump it when I got out there :D
