    Rear Shelf Recarpeting?

I would like to recarpet my rear shelf. Mine looks really shitty and I want to flush mount my speakers. I would think that you could take that one out and use it as a template but I dont know about the small vents though.
Anybody know where I can buy a new piece?

all depends on the year deck. the early pre 86/87 flat style can be done super easily(I've done 2) the latter style with the curved surfaces can be very chanlenging.

It's pretty straight forward to do yourself. Here's an old post when I did mine in ultrasuede http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8887

Be careful pulling up the old carpet since the shelf is basically cardboard and it like to separate when you pull it apart. Take your time along the curves and use good glue! (get the stuff for vinyl tops, will hold up to heat)

What are those vents for? I want to make a custom rear deck, but I don't want them in there.

i'm assuming the vents are for the trunk (either making it easier to close the trunk since it's not totally sealed or just for ventilation) They have nothing to do with rear defrost so I'd say lose if you don't want them.

thanks for the idea of suede I hadnt thought of using that, the suede would look a hell of a lot better than using carpet. but how does the shelf come out? I was trying to figure out how to remove the rear seat but I couldnt find the bolts for the bottom part and I didnt know if it came out as one piece or the top and bottom are separate. I need to do it soon.

You have to remove the Rear seat, Then the shelf just pops right out, Pop up the small black guides for the belt and slide the belt threw the slot in the guide and the deck, and undo the speaker wires.

To remove the rear seat, just pull up on the bottom cushion. It should pop out of place, and then you can remove it.

Next, you need to remove two bolts (10mm I think) that are holding in the back section of the seat. They are located at the bottom corners of the seat. They might be hiding behind the bottom corners of the sidepanels, so look around. After the bolts are gone, just slide the seat straight up a few inches to get it unhooked, then remove the seat.

thanks I was trying to lift up on the rear seat cushion to see if i could feel the two bolts, but I gave up on it after a minute, when its 100+ degrees outside and about twice that in your car it makes things a difficult to work on. I finally got my car into the shop last week to fix my wiring problem I should have it back in few days and I will give it a shot then. thanks again

no no no. There are no bolts holding the bottom cusion down. You just have to firmly pull up and the seat bottom will come out.

The bolts I described to you hold on the backrest section of the seat.

First, remove your speakers. Then remove your third brake light - very self explanatory.

Then remove your rear seat, first pull up on the bottom portion, should pop right out. Then, if the rear seat back is screwed in at the bottom, unscrew it, then pull up on it. Should come right out. Unbolt the seat belt straps. Then pull up on the rear deck and it should pop loose, then work it right out.

                            Really simple. :)
